Zion’s Gate Ministry is here in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and it’s a pleasant surpriseJ The land itself is green and the amenities from home are readily available. American food and snacks, charging electronics, running water, flushing toilets, showers, with that said we do have to be mindful with the water because the water can run out quickly if we’re not careful.
The ministry here is run by Tony, his wife Nydia, and their awesome staff. Their hearts are big and they love on a group of boys and a few girls who have had very tough lives, to say the least. They are here spreading Gods love by loving on the poor and showing God’s love through not only their words but their actions as well.
My time here so far has been great. I’m getting to know the kids and staff little by little. We got our jobs for the week. Mon-Wed we’ll be putting back into the ministry, manuallyJ My team “Sanctified:31” has the task of building a garden by the front rock wall entrance. So far I have enjoyed the manual labor and I have so much more respect for those who work outside. We’ll see how we do with actual planting because I couldn’t keep a bamboo plant alive! The other teams are working on beautifying the property and the main house and the house were they hold their meetings. The rest of the week will be spent evangelizing and loving on the kids in various communities. Yesterday, Thursday, we went to INFA, a home for girls and special needs children. I enjoyed working with the special needs children and just talking to the girls and women here, just getting to know their stories and lives. Fridays are our days for some crazy street evangelizing and our mall days so Wi-Fi!!!! We have designated shower days for each team, 3 days a week is not badJ and we wash our clothes in buckets and hang them to dry. My team decided to camp outside which is nice, since it’s so beautiful here. It’s rainy season here so hopefully I’ll get to fall asleep to the rain soonJ
As far as team and squad time it’s going great. I’m enjoying everybody more than I did at training campJ Every night we have de-brief with our teams and I Love It! I think that’s how we’re already getting stronger as a team and really trusting each other. That is definitely something I want to incorporate somehow back home.
Love you all so much and thanks for all your love, support, and prayers.
