Nope sorry folks this is not a story of how a blind person was restored their sight but one of insight.
The blind community here in Kuala Lempur is quite large so it’s not uncommon to pass the blind walking the streets or pass by a few “blind massage parlors” on any given outing. Because of that I was not surprised to find out that there was a church specifically for the blind. But since I have never been to a church for and lead by a complete blind congregation (minus their seeing spouses and children) I wasn’t exactly sure how it was going to be set up and I wanted to be conscious of not saying anything wrong, for example telling a blind person anything related to their sight or lack there-of. You become very aware how often you tell someone “come look” or “did you see that?!”.
Tonight my team and I got the privilege to attend the local church for the blind here in the Bricksfield area and oh my the welcoming they gave us was awesome and so beautiful. Some of the sweetest, open, and funniest people I've met here. The afternoon was full of worshipping Christ and all his goodness. The room was overflowing with the Holy Spirit and with joy for the Lord. The worship team consisted of a few singers, a guitar player, a guy on the piano, and the lead on the bongos. Complete blind worship team. A team that sees more of the world than the average person. Seeing….no feeling their joy and love for the Father was so inspiring. A group of people that according to society standards are: disabled, disadvantaged, limited, unlucky, a group we see and always think “oh how sad for them”. But that mentality is completely off. They see the true beauty of the world. They know what it feels like to be blessed by the Father. They are not focusing on the limitations and hindrances they face in the seeing world; no they are grateful to be engulfed by the love of God. They are joyous spirits spreading true love and joy to us who under “American Standards” have it all. Not only joy and love but man they have a sense of humor! We were asked to get up and sing a song on the spot (which happens often) the only song that we all knew was Amazing Grace. Yup….Well when we got to the line “I once was blind, but now” (I’m cringing on the inside hoping to not offend anyone) we burst out into hysterical laughter when from the back row we get a church member jump in and sing “I’m still blind”….Oh my gosh, I was laughing so hard I was crying. I was so focused on their blindness that I forgot that they’re just a people that see the world differently than I do.
It took the blind to teach me how to see. I am truly blessed in more ways than I can count. Thank You Father![]()
