Our month in Ghana was spent working with Elim City in the city of Sunyani. Our hosts have been absolutely incredible and we have loved our experience here so much. Here is a little glimpse of what our month was like here in Sunyani-

Evangelism:

One of the main activities that we have done is going around to different parts of the city in our matching shirts to meet the community, invite them to church, and pray for them. We have been able to meet so many amazing people who have been so welcoming to us as we are approaching them during their day. My favorite part of going out in to the community is getting to meet and play with children. Many of them don’t know much English yet, but it’s amazing how universal laughter is. I have run around streets with countless children who I am unable to converse with, but we can still act goofy and play games together. All of the kids here love to play football (aka soccer) and I love jumping in to play with kids we see in the middle of a game.

School Visits:

We have also had the opportunity to visit a local school a few times. The first time we went we partnered with a teacher and helped out any way we could. We went with an organization who came to pass out notebooks, pencils, and pencil sharpeners to the children. Since I was placed in a classroom of young children I helped the teacher write her student’s names on all of the notebooks they received so the kids wouldn’t lose them. The other times we went we were able to spend lots of time playing games with the kids mixed with a lot of singing, dancing and praying.

Concert Prep:

A large part of our time in Sunyani was spent preparing for a concert we had on the 23rd of September. Some of us worked on choreographed dances, some lead worship songs, and a few people created a skit that they performed. There were a few other groups from around the city who came and performed songs as well. In true concert fashion we ended up all dancing at the front jumping around and having a blast. I loved seeing everyone display their own talents and also enjoy learning new dance moves from my friends at Elim city.

Church Involvement:

From the moment we arrived in Elim City our hosts made it clear that they didn’t just want us to attend their church, but to truly be a part of it. We quickly chose areas of the church that we wanted to be involved in. I absolutely loved being an usher and welcoming everyone to church. It was awesome to be able to interact with everyone that was a member of Elim City. I also got to help out with Sunday school. We shared bible stories with the kids and sang lots of songs and played games.

Video Announcements:

At Elim City church, they create videos every week to display during church for announcements. While I have been in Sunyani I got the privilege to be in the announcement videos. My teammate Katie and I had a great time getting creative with all of the shots. The creativity didn’t stop with us; our friends Kiss and Eric who were in charge of the video, cloned me in one shot as I gave the announcements.

Moving on:

It is not going to be easy leaving this city. I cannot say enough how much I loved getting to know everyone we have worked with in Sunyani. Their friendships have meant so much to me and my team and have made us feel so at home. Once again, as we leave another city, please pray that we are leaving our hosts feeling blessed and refreshed. Pray that they know how much we have loved and appreciated them. Pray that their church has been blessed.

Leaving Ghana means that we are now done with the African portion of our trip and are now headed on to Asia! Nepal will be our all squad month, which means all of the teams on my squad will be working together with the same host. My team has worked with some other teams on our squad, but there are many teams we haven’t worked with. Please pray for unity on our squad that we are able to work well with each other and love each other well as we love the people of Nepal and show them God’s love.
