Hello! Welcome to my World Race Blog!
My name is Elizabeth Freeman. I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona by my loving Mother and Father. I have one sister who is two years older than me. Our parents raised us going to a Lutheran church, but I didn’t take my faith as my own until I was in high school and began going to a club called Young Life. It was through Young Life that I learned what it meant to have a relationship with Christ.
The past two years I have spent teaching second grade in South Tucson. Working with my second graders has been a challenging experience and I wouldn’t change it for the world! They have taught me so much about patience, love, and the importance of understanding hidden motives instead of taking everything for face value.
So why do I want to leave and go on the World Race?
One reason, very typical for a girl in her mid twenties, is I have always loved traveling. When I was younger we didn’t go on too many crazy adventures, but we often went to California and Oklahoma to visit family. As I got older my parents were gracious enough to send me on trips through my school to France, England, Italy, and China. Even though I loved every aspect of traveling I never thought I would be interested in international missions. I always said “there are so many people right here in our own community (like my second graders) who need Jesus just as much as someone in another country.” But then I went to India.
Two of my friends were spending 6 months in Southern India working as foster moms with the organization Sarah’s Covenant Homes. So, along with a few other amazing people I was able to go to India for a month and volunteer with SCH as well. I loved getting to know the people and the culture of India. Things weren’t always easy, but they were almost always guaranteed to be interesting.
Through going to India I learned that international missions isn’t just about who I can help, but also about learning more aspects of God’s character through his people across the world. Although I still believe that you can be on missions no matter where you are, I know that it is also necessary to say yes when God calls you somewhere.
All that being said, I probably don’t know what I am getting myself into, but I am so excited to see more of this fascinating world God has created and cannot wait to see how God might use me in some of the places along the way!
