In China we spent most of our month doing ministry that felt like “real life.” It’s not that The World Race isn’t real life. This IS MY LIFE and it’s messy and deeply fabulous all at the same time, but china was very different from the rest of our race. Essentially we only had one mission: make friends, build relationships, and eventually try to sneak in the Gospel.
We had an apartment we paid the rent for, we had our own budgets for food and supplies as oppose to a team budget, and we had to make the choice everyday to invest in ministry. I was reminded of a very important lesson I always knew: You don’t have to travel the world to be a missionary. You don’t have to work at an orphanage in Mexico or volunteer at a homeless shelter. You don’t have to do street evangelism or carry a sign that says “ I am a Christian and I want to tell you all about it.” You can be a missionary by simply living a life that represents Christ. Our lives should be a mission field and I can’t keep thinking that I have gone on a “mission trip” for 11 months. I have simply switched the location of my ministry. I became a missionary the day I accepted Christ and He changed my life. There is not much more I can say about China except that it was an incredible month, and the Lord reminded me of a really important lesson that I have to remember when I get home. Here are some pictures of the month!
