We made it to Malaysia! Our time of building relationships with the girls in the red-light district in Thailand has now come to a close. By way of one songthaew, two sleeper trains (which is the best/most fun/most comfortable/coolest way to travel ever) and one taxi ride we made it to our next country!

I really didn’t know much about Malaysia before coming here. It is considered the melting pot of Asia because there are people from all of Asia that live here. The main people groups are Arabs and Indians which has had an effect on the country as well as their main religion. It also means we have to be a little more conscious about what we say in the community and online. We cannot say what organization we are with or what we believe because it is illegal for us to tell the Arabs what we believe.

This month we are volunteering at an English preschool that is the main source of income but also a form of outreach for our hosts. The school is in a house that we get to stay in at night. It is nice and feels like we have some place to call home for this month. We are taking over parts of the lessons every day and teaching things like morals, along with the alphabet and numbers. Our hosts are also excited to have us here for Christmas (they celebrate it here because the government thinks it brings unity) so we can help them with caroling and share about Christmas at the local mall.

Our host is a really nice family who has made us feel extremely loved. They have welcomed us into their family and have poured into us already in the week we have been here. It is not very often that we get to sit under good Biblical teaching that is in our language. It has been great to learn from them and just be with them. My team and I have discussed what a blessing it is to feel like we have an actual home and family for Christmas. The mom is even going to make apple pie for Christmas! Does it get homier than that?

We are already having a lot of fun here and have seen how faithful God has been to this family. We are excited to keep pouring in here over the next month. Your thoughts and prayers for fruit to be born in the community will be much appreciated. Because it is the Christmas season, we have a tremendous opportunity this month to share with people what it’s all about.
