Zimbabwe pt. 1
Ministry
Our ministry in Zimbabwe can best be described as A;SDLKJFNAO;SDIHAKFJNA;SDFJN.
We lived with the Burke family at their hostel for the month. We got to hang out (and discuss the theology and philosophy of Christianity) with the people staying at the hostel. The Burke family showed us what it’s like to be a Zimbabwean and what it looks like to be a family that is CONSTANTLY walking with the Lord.
New things every day.
Nonstop.
Go go go go go GO GO GO GO
Ministry at the market, police ministry, school assemblies, providing bibles to people in rural areas, bible studies with young girls, bible study with older girls, house visits, soccer ministry, nursing home visits, leading 4th graders in nursing home visits, morning bible studies at schools, Friday night youth group, leading evening bible studies at universities, hospital visits…… and that is what a normal Tuesday looked like with the Burkes.
Thereweremultiple times this month that the thought “Everything that has happened to make this possible is completely worth it for this one moment,” went through my brain.
This month was extremely impactful for me personally. It has taken lots of time for me to write this for a few reasons but mostly because leaving was very hard for me and it took extra time for me to process everything/ I couldn’t see my computer screen through the all of the tears. It’s still hard… nay, impossible for me to put into words what our time in Zimbabwe has done to me and all the good that has come from it.
What I’ve learned
- That Zimbabwe is FULL of amazing people
- Zimbabwe’s government is not full of amazing people
- Soccer is more fun barefoot
- I have a plantar wart
- You can get plantar warts by playing soccer barefoot
- It’s always better to castle king side
- When I ask the Holy Spirit to compensate for things that I lack in, he will come through
- Not to give out my phone number to just anyone at the market
Spotlight
Vicki Burke- a woman who has changed my life. Vicki has shown my what it looks like to follow Jesus in every. single. moment. of. the. day. Vicki (and her husband Adam) have shown me what it looks like to lead a family while being lead by God. She worked hard to be my friend, stayed up late, and made coffee and ate cookies with me.
She loved our team. Vicki set us up for success for the rest of the race with what she taught us.
Spotlight 2
The Burke kids- 4 pm was my favorite time of day because that’s when the Burke boys got home from school (unless Daniel had chess club, of course.) These boys were my best friends for a month and it was awesome. Our afternoons consisted of frisbee, soccer, bracelet making, chess, and then family dinner. I loved being part of the Burke family for a month.
To my supporters
This month was extremely impactful for my team and helped equip us in so many ways. I got to talk to more people about Jesus in this month than maybe any other IN MY LIFE. This would not be possible without you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU.
