One week down. Yep it’s officially been a week that My team and I have been in Isibania Kenya. There’s much more to talk about now other then our new favorite soap opera. First off our ministry contact here, Pastor Abraham is fantastic, you know those people who you just instantly trust and want to be around, well that’s him. He really loves our whole team. He has finally begun after a week straight to stop asking us if we are ok with the accommodations (I think he’s finally starting to believe us when we say that we love where we are staying). But what’s not to love?! We have mattresses that we are sleeping on, heated basin water, a huge living room for dance parties with the neighborhood children and a stool to go over the squatty potty, SERIOUSLY we have it made here.
As for ministry on Sunday Pastor basically handed over the entire service to our team. We were teaching Sunday school classes, adult bible studies, and one of our team members preached during the service. Yes preaching is a scary word for me as well but here in Africa what that really is is just sharing your testimony and what God has been doing in your life. Makes it seem a little less scary. I taught a children’s Sunday school class with Lilly. Our class was right outside of the church and during the adult bible study, it was loud. To overcome this we basically had to kneel down and shout in the children’s direction so that both the children and the translator could hear and understand us. It was a little bit hilarious.
On a semi serious note I have felt that I’ve been having a hard time lately finding my words with sharing with others here, especially speaking through a translator, I mean that poor translator I have a hard enough time figuring out my own words. I was just looking for encouragement in this. Ok so as of recently (this summer) I’ve had this thing with bunnies (haha you can laugh) where every time I see one I am just kinda reminded of peace and to release my worries. I could tell you many stories but many times when I am stressed or something really great has happened Ill randomly see a bunny. Anyway I was feeling weird about how I could really talk and share my stories with people in Kenya and I was thinking that it would be really cool if I could have a “bunny moment” to remind me to relax. SO yesterday I was playing soccer (football) with some new local friends and my teammate Billy (although I still suck at soccer its super fun here to play) anyway after that John, who lives near where we are staying wanted to show Billy and I something. I would have never guessed it but he brought us to a bunny farm, a place where his uncle was raising bunnies. So there in front of me were 10 bunnies! Now this might have been a coincidence but Im just gonna say that God is funny sometimes and seriously cool. I so needed that and He gave me that moment.
