We made it to Honduras!  It took us about six or seven hours longer than we had planned, but the welcome home we received from the kids at Miqueas Children's Home was well worth it.  Jacob and Melody Cherian, the directors and the childrens' mom and dad, started the home in 2009.  They currently have 39 children ranging in ages 1-12.

We were greeted last Friday evening with huge smiles and hugs from several children.  We arrived after all the little ones had gone to bed so we got to meet all the older kids.  They showed us our room which is actually one of the kids' dormitories, but there was recently a fire in the building and the kids have been moved to a different building temporarily.  We were so thankful to have beds and/or a dry place to pitch our tents.

Saturday morning was incredible.  All the children were home so we got to meet all of them.  The toddlers and babies are my favorite of course.  One little girl, Carmen, caught my eye right away.  She's a cutie and was rescued after being in a government run home for almost the entire first year of her life.  The government run homes here in Honduras are not maintained very well and many children that have come to Miqueas are from government run homes.  The judge that oversees the placement of children prefers that the children go to Miqueas if Jacob and Melody have room for them.  Introducing Carmen!

All the other kids are great too.  We had a few days this week where we played with all the toddlers while the school-aged children were at school and then did one-on-ones wth the older kids when they got back.  We helped them with English, math, spelling, and Bible.  Most of the kids are really excited to learn and do very well in school!  Jacob and Melody leave tomorrow for Atlanta because they need to renew their Hondruan visa.  They will be back on Sunday, but the next few days should prove to be interesting.

I haven't taken a whole lot of photos because having a camera out around here is just asking for trouble.  Here is one of my favorites from their website:

Wilson and Isaac

All these kids are so great and Jacob and Melody are doing a wonderful job raising them up to be the future leaders of Honduras.  We are so thanful for all they are doing here.
