This past weekend, I was able to participate in my first ever leader retreat. It was a great time! Even before I was blessed with the opportunity to become a squad leader, I knew that we had some awesome leaders directing this squad. After the retreat, I believe this so much more.
We arrived in Kampala on Friday and met up with all the leaders. We had a nice lunch and checked in with each other. Then we had the afternoon off to play games and just hang out and spend quality time with everyone. We had a session that night where we were challenged to continue to press in to our teams and push through these last 3 months with even more depth and perseverance than before.
On Saturday we had some fun! We began with worship and a session and then we had lunch and went bowling! It was girls versus guys and I’m pretty sure the girls did better than we did. It was a ton of fun.
After bowling, we went to dinner at an amazing Mexican restaurant in Kampala called The Little Donkey. Holy moly – it was incredible. The food was so good and the community made it that much better.
On Sunday, we went to Watoto Church. It was pretty great. It’s very Western so it was an interesting taste of home. It was kind of strange to see the elements of a Western church but the building full of Ugandans. The worship was amazing. If you’ve ever been to a church in Africa then you know what I’m talking about.
We finished off the day with free time and resting. We headed back to ministry the next day. I am so thankful for the opportunity to serve this squad it whatever way I can. God is continuing to show me that He begins where I end. It’s encouraging to know that I don’t have to rely on my own strength and He keeps reaffirming in my heart that if I do, I’ll fail.
