It’s so great to finally be back to Kisumu.  Erin, Tess, Travis and I came up to Kisumu on an Unsung Heroes trip.  I came up to Kisumu a few days early because my good friend, Jack Mila, invited me to his mother’s funeral.  His mother went to the hospital because she wasn’t feeling well.  They diagnosed her with Typhoid and gave her some medicine intravenously.  She died momentarily after the medicine had been injected.  The autopsy showed that she died from cardiac arrest.

Jack has had a rough past couple of weeks.  His newborn son was stillborn and then less then a week later is when his mother passed.  It was a privilege and an honor to attend the funeral and represent my dad (Jack’s good friend!).

Jack and his youngest son, Jack Jr, at the funeral

Usually when I go to Kisumu, I stay with Jack at his house.  This time, since Jack was away from town with his family for the funeral, I stayed with an old friend, Philemon.  I met Philemon quite some time ago during a visit to Kisumu.  He graciously welcomed me in to his home.  I had a wonderful time playing with his youngest son, Joshua, and spending time with Philemon and his wife.

When the three others arrived in Kisumu, I moved from Philemon’s house to Jack’s house.  The very next morning we went to Philemon’s children’s home.  It is called Cherry Brierley.  It’s a wonderful place that has about 48 children.  I’ve been there several times and had to make sure the others saw it.  It is the best children’s home that I’ve been to in Africa.

Jack and me on the morning that we headed for Holly’s

Please keep Jack in your prayers.  Please pray that He provides healing for him and his family.  Pray that Jack continues to trust and rely on the power and sovereignty of God entirely.  Pray that the Lord continues to bless Jack and provide for his family and for all of the children’s homes that Jack helps with.  Pray for safety and health for him and each of his family members.

Tomorrow we are heading off to spend time with Holly, one of Tess’ friends from home.  She is working with some Luo (the tribe here in Kisumu) out in a village about an hour outside of Kisumu.  I’m excited to see what work she is doing and how God is using her and her husband for His glory!

Thank you so much for all you do back at home or where ever you are reading from!  You guys are so awesome and I appreciate each and every one of you.
