I sent my fundraising letters on Monday and below is the text of the letter for those of you who didn't receive a paper copy. Thank you so much to everyone that has already contributed!
Dear Family and Friends,
As you may already know, since 2002, I have spent a good portion of my summers working in Eastern Africa with a few different Christian, non-profit organizations. This year, I’ll be doing something a lot different. I’m embarking on a World Race (theworldrace.org) with an organization called Adventures in Missions (adventures.org). The World Race will take me all over the world to 11 different countries in 11 months. Along with seven or eight other people, God will use our team to help with construction, conduct Vacation Bible Schools, build relationships with orphans, pray for the sick, and meet other needs as God leads us. Some days will be spent walking through towns praying over people, grocery shopping, or even cooking meals for the hungry.
I will be traveling to Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Philippines, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda. I am very excited for this opportunity, as I have never been to most of these places before. I feel that this race will be a great opportunity for me to grow spiritually and culturally. This 11-month trip begins in September of this year, which means I will be returning in August of 2013. As you can imagine, this is a big, life-changing, commitment.
Here is the deal… I need a lot of help! There are two ways you can help. The most important is to pray for the team and me. Pray for God to go ahead of our team, prepare the way, and pave the way for us to accomplish everything He has planned. Please also pray for the adults and especially the children that we will meet, our preparations, safety as we travel, and good health.
As I’m sure you can imagine, an 11-month mission trip is not cheap. I would be extremely grateful for your financial support. I need to raise about $15,500 for this trip. Any amount you can offer will help immensely towards helping God’s people while on the World Race. No amount is too small! I do have a few checkpoints that I need your help in meeting. I must have $3,500 in donations by July 1! I have no doubt that God will provide for this goal.
No matter how you can support me, I have enclosed a response card and pre-addressed envelope, inviting you to share in this ministry and adventure with me. You can support me financially online or by writing a check. I would really appreciate if you would consider donating monthly from now until March 2013 (I must be fully funded by March), it’s very easy to set it up online.
