What’s up readers, it’s Easton coming to you right here through the text of my blog! This is my World Race blog, where I will be posting updates both from my life and from the missions field throughout 2024. Most people here probably know me to some extent, but the purpose of this post is to give you some details about me for those of you who may have only just met me.
So, I am Easton James Werling. I live in Noblesville, Indiana with my family and I graduated from a small classical Christian school in Carmel in May 2023. I worked at Chick-fil-A for a while during my junior year of high school, and it really exposed me to “the real world,” and pulled me out of my little homeschooled/classical Christian school kid’s shell. Working there tested my faith, and, by the discipleship of certain people the Holy Spirit brought into my life, the Lord strengthened me in my faith, preparing me for evangelism in the local ministry of my current workplace. I found out about the World Race the summer of 2022 from my dad at a family retreat, in which he described it as a life-changing, year-long trip around the world. He informed me he heard about it because someone at our old church did it.
“Whatever”, I thought, then I put it in the back of my mind for a few weeks. The Lord brought the idea back to my mind during the beginning of my senior year, during which I finally looked into it and understood God’s calling to me to the missions field, specifically this Gap Year trip, before going into college. I understood it would strengthen me in my faith and develop in me a further conviction of my Faith. So, I decided to apply. I interviewed with the World Race staff and filled out the forms and all that, and gave them all the required information. After prayerful consideration, they accepted me. Now here I am.
Throughout my life, I have gone through many phases and hobbies, making me into who I am now. I have acquired an interest in bicycling, specifically bike commuting to places as a substitute for the standard suburban way of driving. Ironically enough, I also enjoy learning about cars, specifically older model Japanese import vehicles, while I also enjoy performing minor repairs on my car, a 2003 V6 Toyota Camry. I have a deep interest in theology, with a focus on studying the Bible. I’m currently in the process of reading through the historic work, Institutes of the Christian Religion by John Calvin. During my senior year, I have enjoyed reading works by Augustine, specifically, City of God, and Confessions, which was an especially moving text which especially sparked my deep curiosity in the nature of God and his relation to us through Christ Jesus.
In my personal life, I have a passion for putting to work my knowledge about theology towards evangelism. I definitely look forward to what God has planned for me on the World Race as I embark on the gap year trip from September 2023 until May 2024.
