I think it’s fair to say that we could all see this coming with the way this virus is spreading. It’s still hard to believe that we are actually going home. We got the call on Saturday that Adventures in Missions is pulling all 550 missionaries they have back to America. Then on Sunday night we got the email for our flights which were only about 36 hours out. They are flying us to New York and we will do a Debrief for 2 days. As long as we do not get quarantined upon arrival. Then after the debrief we are all free to pursue whatever we as individuals want to do next.
You may be wondering, “So what’s next Dylan?”. I’m going to be honest, I do not have a clue. I will be going to the AirForce this fall but until then I’m pretty lost. I am still on crutches until April 10th and then after that I am not allowed to carry weight until June. The original idea/plan before the virus was, we were going to fly back into California. I would hang out with my team there for a while since all but one of them live there. I might still do that because rumor has it, Illinois is closing the sit down restaurants for two weeks. What’s the point of going to southern IL if I can’t get the hangover special (biscuits and gravy, bacon, and two over easy eggs) at Liz’s Cafe every morning? Either way, I do plan to be back in Illinois soon whether I make a pit stop in California or not. Once I am able to walk again, I will need to find a job until I ship out for Special Warfare Basic Training.
I would be lying to you if I didn’t say I was sad to see this all coming to an end so soon. At the same time though, these last 8 months have been such an incredible blessing. I am so thankful for everyday that I have had out here. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I look forward to getting to see all of you soon, catch up with what I’ve missed, and talk about all the things I’ve seen our amazing God do over these last 8 months. Thank you all for following along, supporting, and encouraging me on this journey. I couldn’t have done it without you.
