“WHAT! You want me to teach Sex Ed? What do I know about Sex Education?”

Four of us were told that we would be going to a local high school here in South Africa and we were going to be teaching a Sex Education class for two weeks. Now, just like anyone else who gets told they are teaching a Sex Education class to a bunch of high schoolers, you automatically result to the stats, the facts and the do’s and don’ts about sex. That is exactly where my mind went. But the thing is, I do not know “jack squat” about Sex Education. I do not know the stats, I do not the facts and I do not know the do’s and don’ts; more less how to teach a high school class! Turns out the three other people I was with felt the same way. So what do we do next? Pray! Pray! PRAY!

The only thing we knew to do was pray in this situation and ask God what he wanted the four unqualified and unprepared Sex Ed teachers to do. God quickly answered, He quickly qualified and he quickly prepared the four of us. With only about thirty minutes before our first class started God showed up and spoke to the four of us and told us exactly what He had in mind for this Sex Ed class and for these students.

“I don’t want you to tell these students about the stats, I don’t want you to tell these students about the facts, I don’t want you to tell these students about the do’s and don’ts! I want you to tell these students that they are my children, I want you to share truth about sexual purity and sexual impurities, I want you to tell my children the difference between what the world says love is verses what I say love is. I am the one who can change their lives, I am the one who can teach them about sex, and I am the one who wants them to hear my voice.” -God

After hearing God tell us these things, a weight of worry was completely lifted off of all our shoulders. We did exactly what God instructed and He taught the students more than we could have ever. We started the class by introducing ourselves and praying for God to speak to the students. Next, we played a quick spoken word about sexual healing from youtube, then it was game on! Each class looked a little different but majority of the time God would have one of us share our own personal testimonies about sexual redemption and truth from scripture (Most of the time my testimony got shared). Then the Lord convicted us and told us that He wanted to speak to the students directly. He pretty much told us to shut our mouths so He could speak. So we did.

The Lord would end the class by allowing the students to be silent and hear from Him directly. We turned on some instrumental worship music quietly in the background, asked the students if they had ever heard God speak to them, then told them that God wants to speak to them even if they do not believe He can. We had the students close their eyes, bow their heads and then proceeded by speaking three truths to the students. “You are a son or daughter of the most high king, you are chosen and you are deeply loved.” After speaking the three truths, we told the students to ask God anything they wanted to ask him and then just sit back and listen. After a few minutes of silence the Lord began to speak to the four of us Sex Ed teachers about what He wanted to say to a few of the students. We sat in silence a little longer listening to God speak, with in moments we could hear students begin to weep, laugh, and pray. We then asked the students, with their heads bowed and eyes closed, to raise their hands if they feel like they heard something from God. One by one hands began to lift up in the air and tears started to flow. Next we invited the student to come write on the chalkboard the things they heard from God. By the end of class the chalkboard was full of truths and words that God spoke to the students directly. Words like, “You are beautiful” and “You are not a failure” and “freedom” and “safe” and “healed” and “come follow me.” After seeing these words and the tears we knew without a doubt that God had spoken to His children. We then were able to invite the students to follow Christ and pray for them individually

Throughout the two weeks of teaching Sex Education, many students heard God speak to them for the first time in their lives, many students made a decision to follow Christ and many students made a decision to rededicate their lives to the Lord. God had a plan to teach the students that even though they may have been sexually active or have been a victim of sexual acts they are still loved and that redemption is in their stories.

P.S. 16 students confessed to give their lives to God and receive salvation. We believe there were more salvations that were not confessed directly to us. SO PRAISE THE LAMB!!!!
