Being a child I never knew that Dr. Suess would actually play a huge part in my life as a young adult. I had no idea the places I would go when I was a child and my mom read the book, “Oh, The Places You’ll Go” by Dr. Suess, to me and my brothers. Same when one of my teachers senior year read the book to the entire class. My teacher described that after graduating from school many of us will take different paths and go to many different places. When my mom read the book to me as a child, I thought she just meant we were going to McDonald’s for lunch, going to school or maybe the park. But when my teacher read the book to me my senior year, I thought it meant I was going to college and was going to be a successful business man.
Well, that is not what God had in mind when He read the book to me.
“You will come to a place where the streets are not marked. Some windows are lighted. But mostly they’re darked. A place you could sprain both your elbow and chin! Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in? How much can you lose? How much can you win? And IF you go in, should you turn left or right… or right-and-three-quarters? Or, maybe, not quite? Or go around back and sneak in from behind? Simple it’s not, I’m afraid you will find, for a mind-maker-upper to make up his mind.”
I went to that place, the place where streets are not marked and I was not sure where to go. Bumping my head turning left and right, looking up and down. Confused of what to choice, I had to make a decision and make up my mind. Unaware of where to find my own “mind-maker-upper” thinking I was my own. But no, all I had to do was look to God, he was and is my “mind-maker-upper.” God is the one who made up my mind for me. I dared to lose all so I could “win the race set before me.”
“Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away.”
To 11 different countries for 11 different months, I am off and away! I am off to great places to share the great love of Christ to a great number of people!
“And when you’re alone, there’s a very good chance you’ll meet things that scare you right out of your pants. There are some, down the road between hither and yon, that can scare you so much you won’t want to go on. But on you will go though the weather be foul. On you will go though your enemies prowl. On you will go though the Hakken-Kraks howl. Onward up many a frightening creek, though your arms may get sore and your sneakers may leak. On and on you will hike, And I know you’ll hike far and face up to your problems whatever they are.”
I am sure I will face many challenges, I am sure I will be frightened and discouraged. I am sure the enemy will do what he can do to stop me from going. But “on I will go,” I will go on with the “joy of the Lord as my strength.” I will face my problems and challenges and I will “hike far”!
“Oh, the places I will go!”
Off to Lesotho I go, off to Swaziland I go, off to South Africa I go, off to Vietnam I go, off to Thailand I go, off to Cambodia I go, off to Nicaragua I go, off to Costa Rica I go, off to Haiti I go, off to Dominican Republic I go, and off to Jamaica I will go!
August 2016 I will be launching off and going to the nations to proclaim the good news of Christ to 11 different countries. I will be spending 1 month in each country and going wherever and doing whatever the Lord has me do.
