I remember when I signed up for The World Race, specifically reading on the description for Mozambique, “one of your most interesting travel days may happen here,” little did I know just how true this would turn out to be.
Wednesday morning we got up bright and early to finish packing up our stuff. We ate breakfast, and then around 7am the charter bus pulled in to pick us up to take us to Mozambique. I’m not sure if you are familiar with a map of Africa, but if you are not, we have been working in the very most Southern country of Africa, next to where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. For the most part you are as far South as you can possibly go. We have been in the Western Cape of South Africa. A long ways from where we needed to be in Mozambique in a few days.
So we finally loaded up the bus and pulled out around 7:30am. We spent the next 30 hours driving across the country of South Africa, dropped off our two previous squad leaders and also our two new ones, did a boarder crossing and got our visas, finally arriving in Maputo, Mozambique. When we got there, 3 of the teams broke off from our other 3 teams and headed to their locations. Our 3 teams had the hook up with some local missionary friends of one of your married couples on our squad, so the 21 of us headed to our rest stop for the night. We didn’t realize how good it would actually be until we got there. Dave and Ann, the missionary couple, fixed us up! They had us drinks, a spagetthi dinner, and nice beds to sleep in for the night before continuing on to our destinations the next day. It was a good “intermission” between traveling.
That evening after getting settled in, Dave took John Michael, Kevin, and myself to the bus station to find our next days transportation to our ministry cities. Once again we were blown away by Gods abundance and how much He loves each of us! He got a discount on the buses and a personal bus, which would be nice because this meant that we did not have to ride the next day with anybody but our teams. The rest of the evening after returning we spent fellowshipping and hanging out.
Early the next morning (Friday morning, because we had an over night bus ride from South Africa and stayed one night at the mission house, if you remember) our bus showed up to take us on to your homes for the month. 21 World Racers, plus 5 Africas who would take turns driving us, pilled into this 14 passenger bus, with all of our backpacks and day packs! You could say it was a tight squeeze haha! 4 hours later, our team (team Siloam) found ourselves getting dropped off literally in the middle of the African bush on some road to meet our contact, Antonio. The other 2 teams continued another 21 hours of travel to finally get to their destination. They ended up sleeping on top and inside the bus that night! Haha, yes, I know, welcome to The World Race…
So here we are, finally, after basically traveling from Wednesday morning until Friday afternoon to reach our ministry for the month! We are working with the organization, “Operation Mobilization” and will be doing a lot of community outreach, prayer walks, discipleship training, and help leading services on the weekends. We are basically in the middle of nowhere, living in our tents in a empty concrete building, closest internet is 60 kilometers away (about 38 miles), and we get to start month 4 with our new World Race teams! I will tell you about that in my next blog! Prayer is much appreciated! Pray for us as we bring The Kingdom to the “city” of Macia and the community of Incaha. We are excited about what the Lord has planned!
Love y’all.
