These amazing people will be our family as we start this little adventure called the World Race. On the race, we will travel between countries and continents with our entire squad, S-Squad!!!, of about sixty five people. However, when we are doing ministry in each country, the powers that be (with God’s guidance, of course) have divided us into smaller teams of six to seven people that will do life together. In some cases, we will work together with other teams, but these people will be our family 24/7.
As I said on our race route blog, we have been taught not to hold on to any expectations, but instead to be open to what God has in store for our lives. Our team could be together for the entire race, or we could change teams tomorrow, next week, or next month. We definitely know that God has placed us into this family to start the race for a reason, and we cannot wait to head out into the nations with these people. We are all from different backgrounds and have crazy different personalities, but we already love each other so much! God is going to do some amazing things through our team!
For our team name, we chose CRASH of LOVE. The idea came from a book by Erwin McManus called The Barbarian Way. In it, he writes a section about what he thinks the Church should look like, and he relates the Church to several different groups of animals, such as a pride of lions, a committee of vultures, and a parliament of owls.
The group designation that is his favorite is for the rhinoceros. Please stay with me, and I will explain his decision. A rhinoceros can run up to 30 mph, which is remarkable for how much they weigh. The only problem is that they have very bad eyesight and can only see thirty feet in front of them. Despite this shortcoming, they have absolutely no fear, and this is how they got their group designation
A group of rhinos running at full speed are called a crash. When they are resting or standing still, they are still called a crash because of their unbelievable potential. We absolutely loved that!
That is how Erwin McManus thinks the Church should be, and this is how we want to bring the Kingdom. We want to charge into the darkness, as an unstoppable force, without fear or anxiety. We make no claims to know the future, but we are going to go out and crash into the nations. Of course, we do not want to bring violence, destruction, or despair, but we wanted our crash to be known for bringing LOVE, powerfully and boldly.
