As missionaries, we often talk about the need we have for prayer. Which is a very real need.
But we also have a financial need. It doesn’t sound or feel terribly spiritual to talk about finances, but money is just as much a part of a Kingdom journey as prayer is. Things in this world cost money, and sometimes we can downplay the need for financial support in favor of support through prayer.
The truth is I need both. All missionaries do.
Right now I am being sent. I am the one who needs support. But that has not always been the case, nor will it continue to be forever.
And too often, as someone who can help send, I content myself with partnering in prayer. I read things like:
“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
I read these passages and I think, “Cool, God has the money side covered. I guess *insert missionary name here* doesn’t need my help.” I let myself off the hook.
But what if God actually wants to use me to help meet the need? It says he provides from His glorious riches, but isn’t everything I have already His?
God using me to meet a financial need for someone else is Him providing from His riches.
So as I get ready to launch for another 5 months on the field, embarking on this new journey that is Squad Leading, I am asking you to talk with God.
Ask Him if He wants you to help meet this financial need I have.
Because I need your prayers, yes. But I also need your financial support. Or rather, the Lord’s support through your stewardship.
And do not be convinced by the thought that says, “I can’t give enough to make a difference, so what’s the point?”
Do you remember what Jesus did with only a few fish and loaves of bread? Jesus knows the value of little, given freely and humbly.
Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins.
Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.” Mark 12:41-44
So whether it is $5 or $500, would you be a part of what God is doing through me and through B Squad? Would you join the team that is sending me?
