Howdy folks.
It’s been a few moments since my last blog, sorry for that, but here it goes again. We arrived in Zimbabwe after a grueling ride on a chicken bus (a bus that stops every few minutes to pick up/ drop off people). We are working in a church called Bulawayo Baptist Church that is pastored by an amazing guy named Jeff, and his wife Tammy, who does an insane amount of things in the community. A general day to day in our time here looks something like this: Sunday we attend a service and serve in the children’s ministry for the second. The children’s pastor is a guy named Shepard who is so passionate about serving Christ, and also is hilarious. Sunday afternoons we usually do our weekly shopping so that we can an opportunity to eat food later on in the week. On Monday we go the church and help Shepard prepare for their upcoming VBS (called Holiday Club here). On Tuesday, me, and half of our team, help cook food the soup kitchen, and then on Tuesday we have a Bible Study within the team. On Wednesday we do a Bible Study in a market so our team gets to lead, and pour into different adults in the community, and then every other Wednesday night we have a young adults group. On Thursday we do a similar Bible Study in a vegetable market. On Friday Carlee and I go with Tammy to the chicken farm (they have 3,000 chickens) to collect eggs and then go back into town the weigh and sort them. These eggs are sold to raise money for an orphanage, as well as run a program called “An egg a day”. This program allows people in the States to sponsor a kid (for like 8 dollars a month) to provide a hard-boiled egg to a kid for every day for a month. Also, Friday morning the second half of our team helps with the soup kitchen. Friday night we help with games, worship, and lesson for the youth program at the school. On Saturday, Carlee and I will help out with eggs again. Our schedule here is always changing, and we have an opportunity to serve in some really cool ways in the coming weeks, but this is generally what happens. We are staying in Jeff and Tammy’s compound in a guest house. It’s actually a very nice house, and after living in tough conditions last month, it kinda feels like a castle. The economy here in Zimbabwe is facing tremendous trials. Please be praying for the government and the people’s attitude towards these hardships. They are facing many difficulties. Thank you so much for your continued prayers.
