Thursday afternoon we made it to Livingstone, Zambia. We are living in a hostel in a subsection of Livingstone called Namatama-Maramba.
We spend most of our time outside as the hostile sits comfortably around 100 degrees for the majority of the day. It’s extremely hot here. The entirety of our team has been sweating for the past 3 days.
The people here are the most welcoming and cheerful people I have ever met. Everyone walking down the street says hello to us, and everyone is eager to tell us about their culture. Yesterday we were able to rest after our long journey here and refocus on the mission. Tomorrow we get to play some worship songs in a local church, and on Monday will begin teaching in the local schools and doing sports ministry in the afternoon.
Our team has gone through some rough patches, but we are growing in unity on a daily basis. It’s simply fantastic.
One of our teammates, Bailey, made it all the way to London before making the decision to return home. She had been sick for 2 weeks, and the patches and upcoming 1-3 hours of sleep a night was not making way for improvement. She is home, still very sick now. Please keep her in your prayers. She never complained once and stayed positive throughout training camp and travel. We love her so much. There were many tears when and after she departed from us, but we hope that she might rejoin our team next month. She’s just as much a part of our mission and family despite the geological separation. The team is not complete without her here, but we know that God’s hand is in control of the situation.
On the drive from Lusaka to Livingstone in Thursday, I was reading in Psalms of the nations universal worship from God, then look up to a vast Africa landscape with mountains on the horizon. That moment was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.
God’s sovereignty and beauty is beyond compare.
If you think of me, pray that my mind will stay on mission:
To Glorify God in every interaction in every moment.
I mustn’t waver from this goal. The eternal judgment of people and nations are on the line. How unloving to people and to God if I am distracted by personal insecurities or laziness to do His work?
The Holy Spirit fills me with the ability on a daily basis, and Jesus has set my security.
Time to get going!
