This past week I have been thinking a lot about the idea of “home.” People have asked me if it will be difficult to leave “home” (Winston-Salem) for nine months, and their questions have prompted me to ask myself, “Where exactly is ‘home’?”

Well, let’s see. I was born near Charlotte, NC to parents who are both from Shelby, NC. Almost all of my childhood memories, including my earliest ones, take place in Moscow, Russia where I was a missionary kid. Yet, I never lived in Russia for more than four years at a time. For the last two and a half years, I have lived in Winston-Salem, NC, but I still have difficulty calling Winston “home.”

Later this year I plan to leave Winston and spend 9 months living in three new “homes.”

And where do I want to live once I’m grown up? Who knows?? Most likely somewhere that I’ve never been before!

As I’ve asked myself this question repeatedly this past week, my conclusion echoes Building 429’s famous song that says “All I know is I’m not home yet. This is not where I belong.” Of all the places I’ve lived, I have not been able to call any of them “home.” But I’ve just recently realized that that is because my home is in heaven.

As long as I’m living on this earth, I’ll be waiting for my home in heaven. Paul knew this when he wrote Philippians 1:21- “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

Building 429’s song “Where I belong” means so much more because of the very next thing it says: “Take this world, and give me Jesus.” May God graciously give me this attitude every day, making Jesus more valuable to me than this entire world.

All I know is I’m not home yet…Take this world and give me Jesus.

p.s. Thanks to many of you, I now only need $25 more to reach my first $1,000! Please donate and help me reach this goal soon!

I owe several quotes from this blog to Building 429. Praise God for people like them who preach the Gospel through music!
