So hopefully you have just read my previous blog about the Typhoon Yolanda Commemoration. Well, our squad had worked extremely hard for weeks leading up to the event. After the commemoration, all of us at the Lighthouse were totally exhausted. So Kids International Ministries took us to a remote island for two days of resting, relaxing, and getting alone with God. We went to Sambawan Island, which is probably the most beautiful place I have ever been in my life.

Anyways, a few nights before we left, Mhiko and I were studying the Bible together. We were talking, and all of a sudden, he said “I think…..I need to be baptized. I want you to baptize me on the island this week.” I was so excited that he was ready to take this huge step in his faith!

On Wednesday morning we all woke up on the island, and after breakfast Mhiko and I talked about what baptism really means. We looked in scripture at Jesus’ example of baptism and his command to baptize as part of the Great Commission. We read about the examples of many believers in Acts, and we talked about the symbolism of baptism. Then, after we had talked for almost an hour, he said, “I want to do it now! I’m ready.”

Our whole squad gathered on the beach. We encircled Mhiko and several people prayed for him. Then, he and I walked out into the water, and I baptized him! Words can hardly describe it all, but possibly some pictures will help! I just posted pictures of the baptism on my facebook wall! go look, now!

We arrived back from the island two days ago, and yesterday it was time for Mhiko to leave. He is moving to Cebu, another city in the Philippines, because he has a good job opportunity there. He plans to work very hard there, to send money home to his family. We said goodbye this morning. I’ll be honest; it was very hard. Mhiko is truly my friend, and I will miss him. But really, I know that God crossed our paths for this short time for a reason. Mhiko has received new life in Jesus, and he has begun to grow in his new life. I can only dream of how much the Kingdom will expand as he goes to Cebu and begins to make disciples there.

I’ll end by sharing the text message he sent my teammate just an hour ago, as he was on his way to Cebu.

“To all the world racers! 😀

I’m very thankful that you guys showed me what Gods love is. You just change my ruined life into a good thing. And I promise bro and sis! I will share the love that God shared thru you! IM GONNA MISS YOU SO MUCH!
