As I finish up packing this month, it’s kind of surreal knowing this will be the second to last time I have to pack up before heading home. The past nine months have gone by a lot faster than I ever could have imagined. It seems so long ago that we started our first month of ministry in Kenya, and all that has happened since then.
These past couple weeks have been really good. We had the chance to visit a few different towns, put on English camps, work with the youth, help at eye glass clinics, and serve the people in the community. It was good having a chance to stay with one of the local families last week and experience life with them. I ended up enjoying the eye glass clinics a lot more than I thought I would. It was a great opportunity to talk with some of the older people here in Ukraine, hear their stories about the coal mines and what life was like during the Soviet Union and then having a chance to share with them a little about Christ and why we are hear. I wish I could have taken a picture of the look on one old guys face at an eye glass clinic when he found out ten minutes into our conversation that I was from America and here to help him. He was so surprised he did not know what to say, it was the first time he had ever met someone from America and I think he still viewed Americans the same way they did 25 years ago when they were a part of the Soviet Union.
We have a long few days of travel ahead of us. About 48 hours on a train then a few hours in a van to get to our next location in Arad, Romania. There we will be working with an orphanage and summer camp. As always, thank you all for your prayers and support.
