We have had a lot going on this past week. Last Tuesday we went to visit Obama’s grandmother. Our contact was very excited for us to go meet her. It was not as much as it was built up to be though. She lived in a small farm house down a long dirt road which took us about 30 minutes to go down. However right as we were getting ready to leave, I asked one of our squad leaders if we could pray over here. She then politely asked the translator to ask Mrs. Obama if we could. Even though she is a Muslim, she agreed that we could pray over her. I then had the opportunity to pray for her I guess since I was the one who brought it up. For some reason I was really nervous at first but knew that that was the real reason why God wanted me there.
After the long journey home, we finally got the best shower I have had in weeks. This is because the sky just opened up on us. I have never seen it rain so hard, there was a river of water running down in front of the house. And on top of that the ground was almost white being covered in hail. The family we are staying with was shocked at this much rain and hail. But what really blew their minds was when some of the crazy Americans ran out to play in the rain and take a bath. At that point we did not care, we were all so dusty from riding in the back of a pickup truck all afternoon, it felt great. This was only after it stopped hailing.
From Wednesday to Saturday we have been helping the church with their open air services or Crusades as they call them in Africa. We usually start in the middle of the afternoon going around door to door accompanied by one or two church members talking to the local people, and making sure they are aware of the Crusades. I thought this was going to be way out of my comfort zone at first, but after the first day or two I got kind of used to it. The people here seem to be very respectful of us and are always willing to listen to the white people, since we are the only ones around for miles. We always get lots of attention form the kids, some good and some bad. One day as I walked around the corner of a small hut, I saw a little kid sitting there eating his lunch. As soon as he looked up and saw me he threw his plate in the air and ran off screaming. We all laughed, but I do kind of wonder what went through the kids mind when he first saw me.
1One of the best parts was Thursday as we were walking around talking to people, three ladies accepted Christ. Though sometimes it’s hard for me to believe right now that through our short conversation with them they truly accepted Christ. At least I know that some seeds were planted. But, one of the ladies did show up to Church on Sunday, and I had a Bible which I had purchased in the local language waiting to give it to her in hopes that I would see her again.
