KARIBU KENYA!!!

Welcome to Kenya! We love it here!

Things have been going great here in Kenya! We’ve decided to give you a glimpse of what a typical day looks like for us (this idea inspired by some of our squad-mates) along with some other random details to keep you in the loop…

Meet Hunter! Guess which one he is…

The World Race has just launched a new program called “World Race Exposure” in which people who are interested in the Race join up with a team for 1 month to get a taste of what it’s like. Hunter is 1 of the first 8 Exposure racers and we have been honored enough to be chosen to host him for this month. He is a 22 year old Texan who loves spaghetti, freckles, and long walks on the beach. Hahaha Hunter is a perfect match for team Ridiculous and has quickly become part of our family. He has been an encouragement and the source of lots of laughs for us all. So be praying for him this month as he experiences a taste of the race!

Deliverance Church Southlands is amazing!

This month we are working with Deliverance Church Southlands, a church less than 2 years old that branched off a larger mother church. Pastor Joseph, his wife Mercy, and daughter Patience have all welcomed us in as family – we are staying at their house, eating their food, and sharing lots of great times with them. DCS is an awesome church where you can physically feel God moving. The church is involved in tons of different ministries that we have jumped in to be a part of.

On a typical day we do outreach in one of the several local slums, like this one. We spend time meeting residents, forming relationships, inviting them to join us at DCS, and praying for them and their needs.

We also get to see lots and lots of beautiful children who melt our hearts and yell to us, “Mizungu, mizungu!” meaning “White person, white person!”

Twice a week we get the opportunity to go to a local school to share with the students about ourselves, how life really is in America (many Kenyans believe all Americans are rich and perfect), and mostly about God’s deep love for them.

We’ve been married for 2 years!

Celebrating an anniversary in Kenya – so great! We were fortunate enough to celebrate 2 wonderful years of marriage here in Kenya. We got to spend the day together…we saw a movie at Nairobi’s 2 screen movie theater, eat lunch at Java House (a World Race favorite coffee/deli shop), and visit an animal orphanage where we got to play with 3 baby cheetahs! Who gets to do that on their anniversary, really?!

Jambo!

much love.
