We would like to embark on a new adventure with all of our blog
readers.  We borrowed this idea from our squadmate Danny Stinson – you
should check out his page as well.  The idea is to give you an
opportunity to interact with us on a certain topic, rather than just
posting a comment.  We’ll call this “Feedback Friday” (and yes we know
this is actually Saturday), and we’ll attempt to post a new topic every
Friday.  We’re asking you to respond to our topic by leaving a comment
on here or e-mailing us (you can do this by clicking the link to the
left that says Contact Us).

This week’s topic:

Are you currently experiencing community?  If so, how does it benefit you?  If not, what’s holding you back?

I’ve
been reading this book by Shane Claiborne called “Jesus for President.”
I read this quote earlier today and I thought it fit perfectly with our
topic of community:

“It’s hard to see until our 20/20 hindsight hits us, but every time we lock someone out, we lock ourselves in. Just as we are builing walls to keep people out of our comfortable insulated existence, we are trapping ourselves in a hell of isolation, loneliness, and fear.”

Living in true community creates a situation similar to looking in
a mirror. If you’re living in community the other people in your
community see things about your character that you may not have
noticed. When you look to them, they can show you the “mirror.” It’s
kind of an epiphany sometimes like, wow I didn’t know that about
myself. We have the freedom to speak truth into each others’ lives, to
keep each other accountable, and when we cross the line we even have
the freedom to call each other out about things. This would not be possible if we didn’t bring our walls down and let people into our lives.

Please give us your thoughts!
