I’ve now been with these kids at Simon’s Town School for one week. They are awesome. We spent last week with the 8th graders in their orientation into High School. This week we have been in the classrooms as substitutes, and we have helped lead their version of P.E. class. We get several chances to talk to these kids about our lives and the gospel each day.
It has been such a blessed week. The kids are all so interested in us (The Americans). The kids have so many questions for us. All kinds of questions. Do I know about the Illuminati (one kid asked if i’m involved in it)? Do I see movie stars everywhere in America (They think I look like Ashton Kutcher?)? Is everything really nice in America? Do I like Cape Town and/or South Africa? Do we have squatters? Do people get robbed in America? Is America like everything shown in the movies?
The kids want to know who we are, where we come from, and why we’re here. I love explaining that we are here for them, to spend time with them, to pray with them, to set an example for them, and draw them closer to Christ. “Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness, and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.” Titus 2:6-8
They have so many questions about who we are, and I pray we are guiding them to one answer. The Body of Christ.
