I’m learning as I sit down with God every day. Many people brought books on the World Race, which I recommend future racers doing. Whether it’s Packer or Tozer or C.S. Lewis, or whatever your taste, I suggest you bring a book or two to push you to grow even in the down time. But let us not forget the book that is our truth. Let us not forget the book that should set our foundation before our experiences. We ask God to speak to us, and he has. We want to know how we can change the world, and he has given us a plan. So before you turn to Packer or Tozer or Lewis, turn the divine pages in the Holy Scriptures. So what does God say about the words he gives us?

It is His inspired word and truth. (2 Peter 1:20-21) (2 Tim 3:16-17)
It is a lamp to illuminate our way of righteousness. (Psalm 119:105)
It is a sword that cuts and convicts us. (Hebrews 4:12)
It is a spiritual food that is important for a daily walk with God. (Matt 4:4/Deut. 8:3)
It is powerful. (Romans 1:16)

We have words of hope, the lamp for which we, the church, are the lamp stand. We have divine power in the gospel.

Why am I writing this blog?

We are in an age that depends on preachers and teachers of the word to spoon feed us the answers to all the tough questions. We want so many answers and spiritual gifts from God, but we ignore one of His most powerful gifts. We shift our foundational truths to fit our experiences and circumstances. Is that what we want? Are we not warned against that so often in the New Testament? (2 Tim 4:3-4, 2 Peter 1:12-2:3, Colossians 2:8) Let’s focus on truth in His word. Do we so easily forget how powerful His speech is? (Gen 1:3) I urge us because I have been found guilty of this. I ask God who I am and my role in His plan. He has told me. I am his child (John 1:12-13). I am to help save others (Jude v20-23). So my charge to anyone reading this: read scripture, digest it, let it renew your hope for what’s to come, let it answer some of the tough questions, let it convict you, let it be your guide in the promise of salvation and in your walk of righteousness. Let scripture give you the right perspective of your circumstances, because we are in trouble if we let it become the other way around. It’s not just a relic. It’s the word of an Almighty God.
