Wringing her hands, she continued.

We were at the jail for the weekly discipleship/girl time.

She admitted that when she had first started participating, she would say terrible things (whether about the lesson or the women was lost in translation), but now she can feel a true change in her heart. She was set to be released the next day, but with a new hope. She recently learned that her husband had been saved and would be giving his testimony at his church.

“And I want to give my testimony. I want to be truly new.”

As she shared, the worship from the men still inside the jail began to grow as they began a new song (apparently a favorite of everyone). The young girl next to me tilted her head back and opened her hands. Her lips began moving in silent worship to the Lord. When I looked up, almost all of the women were singing. We stopped before prayer and just worshipped. I have no idea what the words meant, but I felt the Spirit so strongly at that moment. We could hear the men’s voices growing louder inside, and I could picture their hands outstretched through the bars and through the dim air towards the light that they have truly found. I opened my eyes and saw peace, hunger, brokenness, and hope all on the same faces. Without knowing what was being sung, I felt the Lord’s joy. He was so so pleased by this worship. He was pleased with these hearts. He was proud of His daughters and He showed it as we gathered around these women, praying for physical healing, safety and health during current pregnancies, praying for kids who are now without their mothers, and praying for strength to walk out this new life, and celebrating the salvation of these women, even of spouses.

This is where the Lord loves to show up. This is where He loves to pour out His light. Because they were so ready to receive it. This is where He is pleased. His promises are felt in the darkness. And His voice of hope and truth booms over the lies of the enemy.

He makes beautiful things out of dust. He makes beautiful things out of us. And oh, how beautiful He is making them!
