Our contact for Guatemala is a funny guy. He has 4 ministries that he is connected with. Here is the list: a nursing home, a clinic for children that are malnourished, a hospital that children have cerebral palsy and his personal ministry teaching at different schools. We actually got to choose which one we would like to be involved in. I kind of left it in the air because I was not sure which one I really wanted.
Our contact has twin girls that are so pretty, and his wife is pretty too. He does really well speaking English. His personality is so kind and he likes to make people laugh. He had a great game to get to know the 3 teams that will be working with him this month. We had to go around and say our name, where we are from, and something we are good at. We used a hacky sack to throw and we just kept passing to different people until we were done.
The team leaders had their meeting about what their teammates wanted to be involved in the most. Luke told everyone on the team what we were going to be doing this month. I was hoping for either teaching in the schools or working in the clinic. The nursing home was my last resort, because the last time I visited a nursing home was when I was 7 or 8 years old and it was very scary.
However, my heavenly Father knows what is best for his children. I was placed on the visiting the nursing home five days a week team. I was like, “What in the world I am not going to do this ministry.” But it does not matter what I want to do, because it is all in my Father’s hands. He already chose the people he wanted to go to the nursing home before I even knew this was a ministry.
The good thing is that I was not alone about struggling with this ministry. With prayer and a supportive team we all helped each other to overcome this little hurdle. We came up with ideas like exercising, coloring/drawing pictures and playing music. It was hard to think of what the elderly would like to do, especially being in a different country.
The enemy knows how to get to God’s children, to let the flesh take over and even the mind too. I have learned to lean more and more on my Daddy, because he has all His children in His hands and there is nothing to fear. Once we prayed for this new ministry, all fear went away. I’ve learned to have my Daddy’s eyes to see people like He would see them.
