Our ministry site and hosts for month one are incredible. It’s funny how similar this part of Serbia is to Alabama. We are surrounded by cornfields and farm animals. The locals live a very simple lifestyle and the sunsets are absolutely beautiful. Our ministry hosts have spoiled us with their hospitality and have made this place feel like home for us. It’s going to be a hard goodbye, but I am beyond thankful for the experience we have had here at Kamp Mrcajevci.

One evening all of the guys were hanging out. Connor, one of my teammates, noticed the sunset through the trees and told me to go get some pictures. I went and got some pictures and as soon as I put my phone in my pocket I felt a pull on my heart. I sat there for a minute and took in the sunset, just thanking God for bringing me here. Not long after that, I felt the Spirit leading me to walk alongside the the cornfield. As I was walking, I came up on about 20 rows of corn that had been harvested. In that moment I heard God say, “The harvest is coming” and Matthew 9:37 was laid on my heart: Then He said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.”

A cornfield is just a cornfield until you realize the harvest is coming and it will no longer be there. Just like this world, people are people until you realize that none of us are here for long. We have so much in front of us with so little time. I could waste the rest of my life just seeing the people as just people or I can see them for who they truly are: people with eternal souls that are absolutely adored by our Creator. He wants to have a relationship with them and he wants to use us in drawing them to him.

Live intentionally was spoken over me by my squad leader and has been the theme of this month that I want to carry it with me throughout this 11 month journey. “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.” -Philippians 3:13.

It is impossible to reach the lost without living intentionally. God has spoken: The harvest is coming.
