To help make more sense of this blog, I HATE rats. I have had a phobia with rats since I can remember. So coming on the race, embarrassingly enough, that was one of my biggest concerns. I did not encounter rats until Month 4 in Penang, but that is a different story that I won’t get in to. But Month 6 was my first month in close quarters with them. This a story terror for me, but a story full of laughter for the others.
My version:
One night in Myanmar, we were all outside hanging out in our open air kitchen. We were all sitting around the table when I spotted a rat on the edge of the woods. I scared it away and went back to my business. We continued talking and hanging out. Telling jokes, braiding hair, eating 50 clementines a piece, etc. Then, all of a sudden rats came darting from the woods, ambushing the kitchen. I jumped on to the table and grabbed a pan lid simultaneously. Immediately I let out a loud battle cry and everyone assembled. Kristine was sent it on foot to push them back. The rats were moving left in sequence, when suddenly we realized Madison had made it to the roof with her blow dart she picked up in during Month 4 in Malaysia during her battle with frogs (she doesn’t like to talk about it). Anyway, she was firing away and pushing them all left, making it easy for us to make advancements. While this is going on, Mac is trying to get a signal to call in air support that never was successful, but luckily for us we didn’t end up needing it. We successfully pushed them back enough, and eventually they decided to retreat.
Reality:
We were all hanging out in the kitchen when I spotted a rat and threw a clementine peel at it and it ran back in the woods. A little while later, three ran out of the woods at once and I jumped on to the table and grabbed a lid simultaneously. I screamed like a 7 year old girl who just watched her little brother pull the hair out her favorite Barbie doll. Everyone started laughing at me. Kristine and her kind soul went and made sure they were gone to make me feel better. Madison and Mac laughed harder than anybody. Connor filmed the whole thing, and thanks to him I can’t deny any of my embarrassing reaction to the three mice the size of my big toe.
