I remember reading about how when Chuck Yeager was about to break the
sound barrier and the plane, the X-1, was bucketing under him as if it
would shake apart, his controls were freezing up on him, and he said
his natural instinct was to pull back on the stick and ease back into
calmer space. But instead he “stacked the stick”, pushing all of his
body weight forward and willing the stick forward. After a very rough
and anxious moment, he was able to push through the “sound barrier”
and the plane leveled out at an unprecedented speed. I think faith is
like this. I think the devil gives us what appear to be “safe”
options but which are something short of what God wants from us and
for us. Lately I’ve been trying to do this in my life and it’s been
amazing to see things which seemed impossible fall way under the power
of an almighty God. I think that the World Race gives us all who take on the challenge of this ministry an opportunity to “stack the stick”, to push the envelopes of our faith and comfort zones and to achieve the Grace and Gifts which God has prepared for us.
