Sherri’s Story

I am part little girl who grew up wearing cute dresses every Sunday and always toting a book, probably Baby Sitter’s Club, that she would read during boring sermons.
I am part little girl who feared the future so much it ate away at her worry-brimming mind, until, as she stared at the  massive pecan tree outside her parent’s bedroom window the words, “Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you,” whispered peace into her storm and gave her first delicious taste of a relationship with the Creator who cares for silly little girls.
I am part teenager who read her hot pink Bible everyday, and drove her red VW Beetle to youth group every week  because she just wanted to know more about this God who would love her with such a bizarre love.
I am part young woman who in college studied abroad for a semester in New Zealand because her Lord of the Rings obsession drove her to the land where it was filmed, only to return 5 months later with a heart for being a missionary wherever she was after seeing her international friends be transformed by Christ.
I am part young woman who after graduating from college flew off to teach in Thailand because she loved spicy, flavorful Thai food, only to stay for two years instead of one and get married in Bangkok across a sparkling river from the Grand Palace to a Thai man of her never dreamed of dreams.
I am part young woman who now lives upstairs in the rec room of her parent’s house in Waxhaw, NC, and dreams at night beside her husband  on their fluffy bed of leaving in June 2010 to travel the world and see and join in on what God has been up to in 11 countries in 11 months as she continues to live what she has always hoped for—a not ordinary life.

 Dominic’s Story

My main passions in life are my faith in Jesus, family, friends, working out, and
travel. I
grew up in the wee town of Sukhothai, Thailand. I had a tough
childhood: my mother left me when I was born with an alcoholic
father and my grandparents. While growing up, I felt
a loneliness inside me that nothing could fill.

I grew up in a toursity town, and loved to watch the foreigners who
swam in pool of the guesthouse next to my home. I was in awe that
these people came from a different land, just to explore my little
town. I wanted to become friends with them and learn what it was like
where they came from.

I was always observant and enjoyed learning how things came together, so I decided I wanted to study engineering. I was the only
one out of my friends who passed the test to go to university in
Bangkok. So I left my wee town, to study Telecommunications
Engineering at King Mongut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrahang. After
graduating, I moved to an apartment in Bangkok with my cousin.

My cousin invited me to go to the gym and start working out. It
was in the gym where I met some foreign dudes from America. I was excited to get to know them and quickly invited them to my
birthday party. After going to the party, they invited me to go to
church with them. It was here where I came to experience true,
deep, loving friendships. I learned more about Jesus and was in awe of
how much love, and forgiveness He offered. I wanted to have a
relationship with this Jesus, so I decided to begin one in January
2007– finally my lonely heart was filled. I became a regular member
at Newsong, a church in Bangkok which is where I met the woman
described above.

How Dom and Sher met

Sherri’s perspective:
At
the end of October 2007, our friend Ja asked me one day when we were
hanging out at a beach in Thailand if I would be open to meeting one of
her friends whose type was foreign girls. I said, “Yeah, sure. I’m
open.” I wasn’t expecting anything to come of it because Im usually not
attracted to Thai guys and most of them are not Christians.

But when Ja pointed him out to me the next week at one of our church
worship nights, I said in my  head, “Oh! Wow! A cute Thai guy! No way!”
Then after being introduced we awkwardly chatted a bit before the
service started. After church a lot of us went to a jazz place called
Saxophone to listen to our friend play. We all sat together around a
big table, but by the end of the night it was just Dominic and I left
at the table talking and before he walked me to the skytrain he slyly
asked for my number. i was excited 🙂

We progressed from txts, to calls, to dates–our hearts thumping
madly whenever we were around each other. We discovered we both loved
adventures, traveling the world, God, and loving others. Soon the puppy
love progressed into deep commitment and we both knew we wanted to
spend forever together.

So we got married on January 6, 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand. It was a delightful day, but none of Sherri’s family or home friends could make it, so we had our Wedding Part 2 on August 15, 2009 which was also an amazing day. Ask us more about it later if you like.
 Now
We moved back to Waxhaw, NC in August 2009. Dom is now a permanent resident, and we are both looking for jobs seeking God as what His purpose is for us here before we begin our next adventure of the World Race!
