Apparently, prior to becoming a
children’s home the land that Cicrin sits on was used as a military base. During one of Nicaragua’s many civil wars,
the government brought children out here to this island to prepare them to
become child soldiers. This is where
they would first take the kids and would do horrible things to them. Being here, you could never imagine that this
place of peace was ever the location of such horrendous things. That is how God works redemption: He takes what is used for evil and turns it
for good. A place that was once meant to
raise up children into warriors to fight for the causes of men, is now a place
where children are raised up by Christian principles with the hopes that they
might be a different type of revolutionary.
Is this not what those of us who call ourselves “Christians” should be
about? Reconciling the whole earth to Him, using what was designed for evil to
bring life, redeeming the world?

Every now and then, while hoeing on the farm, you have to pause for a picture. Here I am standing in what will function as a green house, for the cucumbers and radishes we planted hydroponically.
One afternoon the guys took me out to help with the fishing. It was a lot of work, and kind of a slow day. We only caught five fish for our 3 hour tour, 3 hour tour. However, I was thrilled to make it back to the island.
