When you are freezing your bum off in the mountains of
Guatemala, you begin trying things you normally wouldn’t do to stay warm.
As survival mode takes over, your entire body undergoes an intense, but brief,
heightened state of awareness. In that
few seconds, subconsciously your brain races to either empower the rest of the
body for a speedy escape or to prepare you for what is about to happen. When escape wasn’t a possibility, my
finely-tuned survival instincts took over.
Bananas of the yellow-with-a-hint-of-brown variety contain
trace amounts of energy, that when combined with dozens of other bananas of the
same variety, and arranged in proper geometrical patterns, emit just enough
heat that one, maybe two, men can warm their hands.
