It’s interesting to see certain people’s reaction when I tell them that I’ll be going on a 9month mission trip. I’ve gotten everything from a “Wow, that’s awesome!” to a “What about school, work, and life as you know it?” But, nothing beats the regular astonished expression followed by a “You’re doing what?!” All jokes aside, I’ve decided to dedicate my first blog to answering why I’m doing what I’m doing (or what God has called me to do). All questions can be simply answered by, because God.

because God saved me. First off, I full heartedly believe that, while still in the womb, God chose me. (John 15:16, Ephesians 1:4-5, Jeremiah 1:5) Only by His mercy and grace am I able to do all things. Without being able to please God, He adopted me into His everlasting kingdom. With that in mind, I’m powerless as to what happens in my life, and as well as what will happen on this trip. He is in control. And if by his mercy I was saved, by His grace I shall continue.

because God called me. The reason why I will embark on this trip is because I believe that I was called to share the Gospel. As a Christian I want nothing more than to know Jesus, and as a forgiven son I want nothing more than to share the good news (the Gospel) to the nations. My unworthiness to be God’s servant serves to humble me to the extent of fully following the Great Commission of “making disciples of all nations” (Matt 28:19). That is why I’m doing this, not for any personal interest, but because God.

because God love(d/s) me. His love always seems to amaze me. Though my love is based on conditions and moments, His love for me is unconditional and timeless. It would be crazy of me, at-least I believe so, to not share His love to the World. A love that knows no boundaries, a love that “shows no partiality to princes, nor regards to rich more than the poor” (Job 34:19), a love that does.  There is no greater love than that of Christ and I know that His love is what has and will continue to strengthen me.

because God is in & with me. A common worry about The Race is safety. Common questions include, and are not limited to, “What about ebola? Persecution? Safety in general?” In risk of sounding arrogant, my answer usually defaults to “what about it?” When in all honesty, its not really arrogance, it’s trust. Perhaps God’s sovereignty is the most overlooked thing in the Bible, perhaps our daily struggles create in us an unprecedented fear of the unknown, or perhaps we just fear for our lives. That’s where faith comes in. The faith that I have that Jesus, The Son of the Highest (Luke 1:32), The Alpha and the Omega (Rev 1:8), The Rock of my Strength (Psalm 62:7), and my Shepherd (Psalm 23:1) is with me (I could continue to list how awesome He is, but i think you get the point). There is no greater comfort to find than in His promise that “all things work together for good” (Romans 8:28). I find my safety in Him.

I hope that I’ve answered a little of why I believe God has called me to make this “radical” move. I also hope that you’ve enjoyed reading this as much as I did writing it. Stay tuned for some more posts. Peace be with you & God bless!

In Him,
