In different seasons of our lives and in different places God calls us to minister, love, fellowship with His children in completely different ways; ways that don’t always make sense to us. Not only have we been faced with a different culture every month but we have seen our ministry change completely as well. This month in Kampong Cham, Cambodia our ministry is completely different than the last two months, in fact there are three parts to it and they are all different from each other.
Month 1 China, God had us openly sharing the gospel with the college students we met while on campus, along with mentoring them and some of the Christians we had the pleasure to meet. Going into China I expected to have to be very careful who I shared with and were I talked about Christ and the gospel, but like we are told often on the race “don’t have any expectations”.
Month 2 Thailand, God had us (team Teleios) focus on praying for and loving His children, along with supporting the other teams that we were put with for the month. I struggled with this ministry a lot because I did feel like or see that I was making a difference. God reminded me that I may never see the results or a change, I am called act on what He has called me to do and that it isn’t about me it is about Him.
Month 3 Cambodia, the ministry that God has called my team to this month has many parts and I am excited to see Him work in all of them. In the mornings, we go to the slums where we play with the children, bathe them, feed them, teach them songs, tell them bible stories while loving on them, and we also visit some of the houses and pray for the inhabitants. Yesterday, we brought a comb with us and I spent a fare amount of time combing the children’s hair and picking out some lice. I was also pooped on and then peed on while holding a naked baby but there wasn’t any way I could put her down, no matter how many times I had to walk her over to the well to wash her off. I could see in her face that all she wanted was to be held and loved. In the afternoons we teach english, I get to teach a beginners english class of about 9 students ranging from the 11 years of age to 19. While I was writing down my students names, I didn’t realize that I was finger spelling their names until the students started asking me to teach them how to finger spell as well. I am so excited because even though I am not very good at ASL I love the language and am really loving being able to share this with my students! Three days a week we will be taking turns going to the prison, I don’t know what that looks like yet because we don’t start going over there until next week.
2 Corinthians 10:3-6
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
