Ministry:              This month we are partnering up with team Rooted 1930 to assist Tony in his ministry. We will be ministering in 2 different communities:

El Horno is the community closest to where we are living and is the polar opposite of Los Pinos. It is a very poor community, but the people are extremely friendly and thankful for what they have. One of the major differences is the men in this community are involved and want to see change as well. The majority of the community is related to each other in some way.  Our ministry here will likely include teaching English and the discipleship of a family God has put on Tony’s heart to be leaders in this community.

Los Pinos is a community crying out for the love of Christ. It is dirt poor similar to El Horno, but the community is completely different. In this community the fathers are nowhere to be found. They do not take interest in seeing the betterment of the community. The people here feel as if they have no hope, because the community has been stuck in this poverty stricken gang infested state for so long. In Los Pinos stealing and acts of violence seem to be the norm, which is a contrast to El Horno where families will share with each other anything they have. Most of the kids do not go to school and have nothing to do during the day. They use paint thinner and other cheap drugs to escape this reality. This area is relatively new for Tony and most people believe it will be impossible to reach with change. We however believe in Tony’s vision and know God is seeking hearts that believe for the impossible for this community.

Yesterday we met with the community in Los Pinos to see what they would like us to do and the overall message was they were open for anything. Only 1 man showed up, but many of the women and children were there. Their cry to us was to teach them something…anything… to keep the kids off the streets and away from their biggest enemy of boredom. They expressed their feelings of hopelessness, and want us to bring a plan of action by Tuesday.

We are praying fervently for God’s heart and guidance for this community. Some of our ministry here will include teaching English, leading and teaching sports and activities, cleaning up an abandoned school, and building leaders among the teens and adults to reclaim this community for the Lord.

Friday night we had an opportunity to begin building a relationship with some of the children from Los Pinos and with the community of El Horno. We hosted a fiesta at the dormitory we are living in and it was wonderful. We quickly fell in love with the kids and the families here. We danced, ate a traditional Honduran Supper, threw the futbol Americano around, and built a fire so the kids could roast marshmallows for their first time.

We are praying for God’s heart for both of these communities. These communities and our teams would greatly appreciate your prayers as well. I can’t wait to share the amazing things God is going to do here. Love yall!
