What is peace?

How do we find it?

Is it simple to find?

There are so may people around the world and across religions who are searching for this illusive state of being known as peace.

But why, and what makes peace so amazing?

From my understanding, peace is that state of being in which everything is in balance. When, within a person, there is a complete and total harmony between body, mind, and soul. And it is gosh darn hard to find!

I like to think that heaven is pretty peaceful, its got to be or people wouldn’t try so hard to get there.

So why is it so difficult to find?

Well, one of the most obvious reasons is that we let a million things get in the way.

  • jobs
  • school
  • money
  • relationships
  • what to wear
  • where to find food
  • what everyone else is saying about us
  • and the list goes on and on…

The funny thing is that it is possible to find peace within any of these areas of our lives. We are just so used to worrying about everything that we make it very difficult.

Women especially have a hard time with this. We don’t compartmentalize things like men do. So, if there is one area of our life that we are particularly worried about, then everything we do is tainted by that worry.

But here’s the kicker… Worry is not of God!

Psalm 29:11 says “The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.”

In Matthew 11 versus 28-30 Jesus says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

In other words Jesus will take your troubles away if you let him, you need not worry for he is strong enough for all.

He reiterates this in the book of John 16 verse 33 when he says “I say these things so that in me you may have PEACE. In this world you will have tribulation. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

He is literally telling us how to find peace. By not worrying about everything because there is always going to be something to worry about! Instead, take heart in the fact that Jesus has overcome and don’t worry anymore… he’s got this!!
