I was sitting in church Sunday morning, and I remembered something that happened our second or third week here in Rwanda. I don’t know why I never wrote a blog about this or shared it because it was truly amazing.

During one rainy morning, my team and I were all in our sitting room with the door open just relaxing. Outside of our door is the back door of our host’s home. It has a stone landing covered by a sort of awning. The landing is really flat and smooth, so it becomes very slick when it’s wet.

While I was looking outside at the rain, a girl who is friends with our host’s children went running to the back door to go inside and get out of the rain. She ran onto the landing, but because her feet and the landing were so wet from the rain, she slipped and sailed into the air. She slammed headfirst when she came back down on the landing. I could hear her head hit the ground over the sound of the rain on our tin roof.

I stared in shock as the rest of the team came to see what happened. Our host’s kids were all standing around her to see if she was ok. She wasn’t moving at first, and she wasn’t conscious. After a minute or so, she was finally able to sit up. The kids then took her inside the house so that she could lay down.

We went inside a little while later for lunch, and the girl was sitting in a chair barely awake. She was looking really bad and in a lot of pain. Then she curled up on the ground and lay down. While we were eating, we all decided to go pray for her. We prayed for healing over her head and that there would be no serious injuries. After praying, we just went back to our lunch.

Later in the afternoon, she was walking around again. She seemed to be better, but none of us really thought anything of it. The next day she was playing outside with the kids again, and she seemed totally fine. For whatever reason, though, none of us paid attention to it. This girl had been healed from what should have been a really severe head injury, but we did nothing about it! We didn’t celebrate or tell anyone. I just remembered it today, almost a month later.

I tell you this story to show God’s healing power. We thought this girl was going to need to go to the hospital and have some serious concussion or something of the sort, but God healed her! We prayed over her and God answered! God’s power transcends anything we can imagine. His supernatural power overrules the natural. He isn’t restricted by our rules or our laws, and neither are we! The Holy Spirit lives within us!

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” John 14:12-14

We have the power of Christ in us because of the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus himself says that we will do the works that he does and even greater works. Don’t be afraid! Pray bold prayers! Be brave for the sake of the Gospel! The power of Christ is within you!
