My name is Devin Withrow. I’m 18 years old, and I just graduated from high school. Family is very important to me. I have an older sister, older brother, and younger brother and my parents; all of them love and support me every day. They help coach me through tough decisions, and they laugh with me every single day. Without my family, I wouldn’t be who I am today. As well as my family, my friends are important to me. They’ve taught me all sorts of new activities that I now love. Without them, I wouldn’t have discovered my love for the outdoors, adventure, and travel. I am blessed with wonderful people in my life.
Another important thing to me is music. I’ve been involved in music in some form since elementary school. I started out in concert band, playing in band until my sophomore year in high school. That was the first year I was in choir, the first time I performed in a musical (The Music Man), and the last year I was in band. That was the year I learned how much I loved music and performing. I’ve performed in 5 musicals total and sung in numerous choir concerts. I’ve taken voice lessons for the last two years; my directors have taught me so much. They have helped me to grow so much in my singing abilities. In my very last concert of high school, I was given the opportunity to sing a solo. I sang a piece called “Soliloquy” from the musical Carousel. That’s an experience I will never forget.
A few of my hobbies are reading, golfing, rock climbing, and camping. Reading has been important to me since I was a little kid, and I’ve read many books in my life. I’m currently reading Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I have been golfing with my family for about 7 years, and I even played on my high school golf team for 3 of my 4 years. I love golfing, but it can really try my patience if I’m not playing well. Even on the bad days, though, golf is still loads of fun. Rock climbing and camping are both activities I didn’t learn to enjoy until high school. The first time I went camping was with two of my best friends during my junior year of high school. I loved it and have gone on many camping trips with my friends since then. I got into rock climbing in October of 2015 and have absolutely fallen in love with it. I can climb at anytime, and it is always a great stress reliever for me.
The most important aspect of my life, though I often fail to maintain it at that standard, is my relationship with the Lord. In the past year, God has been challenging me greatly in my pursuit of him. I was pretty apathetic about my spiritual life throughout high school, but in my senior year, that wasn’t an option. I was in a class called Ministry & Missions that challenged me in every aspect of my spiritual life the entire year. Then we went to Nicaragua over spring break and everything changed. Now I am trying my best to listen for God’s will in my life and pursue that rather than my own will because I learned in Nicaragua that serving him with all my heart is eternally more satisfying than anything I could ever do on my own. Now I am about to leave on a crazy new adventure for God, full of both excitement and nerves.
Now you know a little bit about me. If you want to follow me as I go to 5 countries to serve God, subscribe to my blog! Then you can be a part of my adventure and learn with me as I grow throughout the 9 months of traveling and serving.
