I kept trying to put into words what It was like living here. My teammate Emily captured it well in this repost of her blog! Thanks, Em for letting me share this! Be sure to subscribe to follow her journey as well!
What’s our life like?
~ It’s staring at the night skyline, watching cars move like ants in the distance
~ It’s waking up to everyone’s alarms and hearing whispered “sorry”s as we navigate the absence of space
~ It’s the smell of cumin and red stains on fingertips from packing the spice into boxes
~ It’s the confusion of schedule as time-oriented Americans adjust to the Colombian pace
~ It’s the joy of praising Jesus loudly in Spanish in a packed room of believers from all types of backgrounds
~ It’s the heartbreak of seeing the reality of homelessness and drug addiction all around us
~ It’s the victory of hearing testimonies of overcoming and God working
~ It’s the satisfaction of having a hard-earned conversation in Spanish
~ It’s the humiliation of failing to answer a simple question in Spanish
~ It’s the laughter of teammates making the same joke over and over
~ It’s the shared unknown of the next six months
~ It’s the physical weariness that puts us asleep earlier every night
