Hi! My Name is Desiree Wright (as you could read above) but commonly nicknamed Des, Desi, Desrudalitootoos, Desidar, and often times cowgirl. I am 18 years old and from a small town in rural Maine called Limington. I live on a farm with many animals, my favorite of those being our cows, ergo the nickname. I just recently graduated from Bonny Eagle High School as valedictorian putting in a large amount of blood, sweat, and tears. Instead of doing the stereotypical thing of going straight to college after high school, I have decided to do what I am passionate about and take a GAP year to pursue my calling of missions.
Some probably fun, not so interesting, FACTS:
I enjoy being outside and playing different sports including soccer, swimming, and lacrosse.
I’ve spent my summer as an intern working with for the University of Maine through the National Science Foundation teaching children about aquaculture…GO SEAWEED!!
I absolutely love Despicable Me and I think Minions are the coolest things ever. I named my cat Norbert after one of the minions in the Minion movie; the movie begins with a naked minion in the ocean and the narrator declares “This is Norbert, he’s an idiot” and so I believed it to fit my cat perfectly.
Norbert the Minion Norbert the Cat
I once dropped an air conditioner outside of my third story window..it did not survive even after hours of operation
TIP: AIR CONDITIONERS MAY NOT BE BOLTED IN TAKE CATION WHEN OPENING WINDOWS
My Connection to the World Race
I have a huge passion for missions and know that this is where I am supposed to be. I first heard about World Race from my youth pastor after he recently had come back from a missions trip in Nicaragua. There was a group of World Race gap year students there and he was so impressed with their performance that when I was discussing with him how I decided I wanted to take a gap year, he recommended this program right away. I looked into it that night when I went home and absolutely fell in love. Last year after I had been on a short term missions trip to Guatemala and I learned that missions is a path I am very passionate about. Doing the World Race will give me a strong foundation before college while also giving me the opportunity to pursue my dream of fulfilling Gods work and I can not be any more excited! Guatemala, Malawi, and Thailand better watch out because we are coming in hot with Jesus’s love!
