So I want to give you all a glimpse into the culture of the World Race. I have lived in a variety of community living situations where group norms and a sort of "culture" is established but this is by far the most fun, interesting, and qwerky group I have encountered. So here it is; a glimpse into the culture of the Race. Readers beware if you have a queasy stomach.

For one, we have world race phrases and lingo such as "press into that." We also "walk through" things and situations and when we have come through it we "walk in" it. Additionally, we are a culture that shares. You name it, we share it. Bananas, peanut butter, clothes, makeup, shoes, bathroom stories, etc. I never thought that after a single month I could be so close to a group of peers. However, on our way to debreif this thinking was shattered and we entered a new realm of closeness I have rarely shared with anyone.

It was a 19 hr car ride from Dondo to Maputo. We were in a sleeper bus that did not have a bathroom. The trek started out with a cold soda pop waiting for us on the bus and full nalgenes. A few hours later in the middle of nowhere nature called, and a lot of us just couldn't wait another two hours for a "real"bathroom, so we did the unthinkable.

I'll spare you the gruesome details but lets just say that in the middle of the day a lot of Mozambiquans got a show on the road as they drove by a group of about 10 women and 5 men squatted in the grass alongside the road. Our only saving grace was the tall grass that we had to squat in as cars drove by and our squad leaders yelling "Girls to the Left, Boys to the Right!" I don't know about you all but I for one have now seen a full moon in the middle of the day. We may need a little forgiveness on this one Lord. 😉

Which brings me to this list…

Things that I have shared on the World Race that I might not have shared at home:

-A gallon of Ice Cream with 5 spoons. Shared with a homeless man, several local mozambiquans, and my beautiful team.

-My razor, luckily I had spare tips and gave her a new one. 🙂

-Baby Wipes (not the same one)

-Underwear (not on purpose)

-A bag of cashews with the locals on the Choppa

-A bag of muffins with a homeless man and woman on the way home

-My Laptop's Battery Life to charge as many other devices as possible

-The last time I pooped & what it looked like

-Cookies!!

-Anything and Everything

Love all of my brothers and sisters in Christ!!
