Today, I didn’t do a thing. I woke up at 9 am, ate breakfast, then went back to bed. Snuggled up in my covers with my mom’s dog by my side I read my Bible for about 2 hours and then took a nap. When I woke up again at 1 pm I wandered about the house, and still in my pajamas I snacked in the kitchen and played around online. Finally, at about 5 o’clock and after thinking about it all day, I decided to work out and did a 20 minute power set. Then, I took a long hot bath. After that I got back in my pajamas, ate dinner, and here I am, in bed again, feeling relaxed and refreshed by the day.
With that said, I must confess a struggle I had today. Because as I rested and did nothing a voice inside my head began to whisper, “Quit being lazy. You are pathetic. There are things to do around the house and things you have to plan. What is the matter with you? Get busy!” And I almost listened to this voice. But then I remembered that I am allowed to intentionally rest and do nothing and that doing so does not disqualify me from being worthy, loved, or accomplished. In fact, the very God who created the Universe took a day of rest after making the earth and all that is in it and He tells us to do the same!
Genesis 2:1-3
“Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended his work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.”
As I remembered these truths I was once again able to feel peace in my spirit, and now here I lay, refreshed and rejuvenated in my body, soul, and spirit.
Praise God for REST!!!
A few verses from the Bible about rest…
Matthew 11:29
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Psalm 23: 1-3
“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows;? he leads me beside peaceful streams.
He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name."
Be BLESSED and don't forget to REST!
