Stepping into month two is a lot harder than either me or Bethany expected. We had such a great experience in our first month that this month just kind of seems less exciting. Not to say that there isn’t some great stuff in Romania. Castles, history, forts, mountains, and a ministry host that is super active in his ministry to this city. Before going on the race we were warned not to compare month to month, but no one warned us about separation anxiety from month one. How do you continue after that?
We’ve only been in Romania for a couple of days and it’s beautiful. We’ve been waking up to sun rays coming over the mountains that you can see from our bed and the Gypsies horses run by our building everyday as they play and stretch their legs. The city we’re in is beautiful as well. It’s full of beautiful buildings and historic sites to see. We saw the citadel today and it was gorgeous. Over three-hundred years old and full of beautiful churches and buildings surrounded by the walls of the old fortress.
But we still have to figure out how to move on. I’m praying for protection against comparison. A large part of us settling in here is going to be learning about the people we’ll be ministering to and what their stories are. We know about Romania, but who is Romania? What makes Romania laugh and what makes Romania cry? We’ve seen your outer appearance, now we want to see your heart and shine a light on it.
We don’t want the joy God has for us to be robbed by comparison, so show us who you are Romania. We know you’re not going to be Sombor and that’s ok. Even though we love that city so much, we didn’t come here to minister to Sombor. We need to know your needs Romania, so we can know how Jesus will meet them. Join us in praying for open hearts here as we serve the Romanian people. I hope we can do a great work and see some lights start to flicker here. So Romania, who are you?
