Saturday we hosted our first World Race Garage Sale…and let me tell you..it was

E X H A U S T I N G

We couldn’t have done it without all for the help and support of so many people, but we will thank you in a special way soon 🙂

I’ve been reflecting so SO much over the last few weeks going through the process of selling most of what we own.

And my goodness…

all the feels.

I watched my very first decoration for my first apartment when I was 18 get packed into a box. I’m not sure who it was sold to.

For me, decorating the walls of my homes has been how I make a place seem like home. I’ve moved more than 30 times in 7 years, and it’s just what works. And to watch my sparkling butterfly, inspirational wall hangs, throw pillows, my first bookshelf I ever built by myself, and so much more go was beautiful.

Not saying I haven’t teared up a few times choosing what stays and what goes.

But I’ve also been stuck on this story from the Bible.

Matthew 4: 18-22

18 While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 21 And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Oh, how do I relate, and wish I could be THIS faithful!

These disciples left everything they knew and owned to follow a man they did not know, to go somewhere they didn’t know, to serve in a ministry they knew nothing about!

Sound familiar?

Saturday was such a “drop your nets” moment for me. The first of many I’m sure.

We live in such a material world where we attach our memories, sentiments, and lives to stuff. And I’m a sucker for a sentiment.

As I write, and also inhale more dust than I thought I could before I suffocated…I am reminded of Genesis 3:19.

“By the sweat of your face
    you shall eat bread,
till you return to the ground,
    for out of it you were taken;
for you are dust,
and to dust you shall return.”

So no, I don’t really need those very first bed sheets I bought for us when we got married. They are sheets. But I’m grateful to lay beside my husband every night, with or without sheets.

Saturday was only our first wave of purging. And it’s an honor to be actively living out “dropping our nets and following Jesus.”

Please continue to pray for us as we continue to fund-raise for our World Race! We have a little less than $21,000 left to go!
