After waking up at 2:40 to load the back of the truck, driving to the bus stop (across from a Texaco gas station), sitting for an hour and a half until the bus arrives, wondering why we had to leave so early and checking our bags underneath the bus we finally loaded “Quality Kings”. As we climb up the stairs and pass the bathroom on the right we see, larger than normal, thicker than normal, and more spacious than normal bus seats. They were soft, with head indentations, they were clean and they reclined. Not only were the seats themselves amazing but there were also a little ramp for your legs so that your feet did not have to go straight down but could rest at an angle; almost as if in a recliner. It didn’t even bother me that I sat down next to some man that I didn’t know because it was so comfortable, I fell asleep faster than usual on a moving vehicle. In addition to being ridiculously comfortable for travel around 8am the stewardess, that’s right our bus had a stewardess, gently nudged me and placed a tray in front of me. Food, on a bus, need I really say more! We had a nice little snacky breakfast of grapes, a ham croissant sandwich (cold, not hot) and a juice box. Two hours later there was a gentle shake again; this time I received a cookie and a cup of hot scrumptious coffee. Wouldn’t you know that about two or maybe three hours later there was a gentle nudge again and this time we were blessed with COLD cans of soda (with a straw) and a small bag of delicious nuts. The only downfall to our travel day, April 27th, were the several stops we needed to make: 6:30am at the Nicaraguan/Honduras border where we needed to get out of the bus for about 30 minutes and wait for our names to be called to get back on the bus; 10am as we were crossing the Honduras/El Salvador border; 10:20am as we entered into El Salvador. But really, in all honesty, it was the best travel day I have ever had. I was able to sleep comfortably, in peace, and when I awoke food was given to me! I’m not really sure how it gets much better than that ya’ll 🙂 Traveling like Kings & Queens!!
